The Gatchina Park hosted the Night of Light festival

On Friday 16th of August 2019, Ms. Ekaterina Prozorova (C3E Project manager SPbSUITD) & Ms. Alla Khokhlova (Admiralty Needle Executive Director, SPbSUITD) met the festival manager Jana Kurilovich in the Palace Park of the Gatchina Museum-Reserve for preliminary discussions about their networks and stakeholders, introducing teams for further collaboration, introducing the C3E project and Admiralty Needle Contest to the Festival director Olga Arshanskaya, planning workshop meeting with the festival managers and Ms. Liubov Dzhikija, Creative Director of Admiralty Needle Contest, for the detailed planning for C3E collaborations after observing the festival contents.

The event needs for strengthening visibility and networks across the border, attracting new audiences and more visitors from the Finnish side, SPbSUITD Fashion department conceptualizing connections between light and fashion, creating collections and catwalk concepts for the season 2020 were discussed briefly.

The Gatchina Park hosted the Night of Light festival on August 16 and 17, with dozens of light interactive installations and plastic performances. in the alleys, the Palace Jordan facade and pavilion of Venus became video mapping sites.

The spirit of the holiday was set by a large musical fountain installed in the White Lake surface — Extravaganza show by an «Artistic» company from Latvia, famous for its participation in light festivals in Europe. Street lamps made by participants of the Lantern Park were implemented with the support of the Institute of Finland in St. Petersburg and the LUX Helsinki festival.

Some works of «Nights of Light» were put forward for the Contest in two categories — light installations and video mapping. 18 artworks have come through to the final of the competition. Also, the jury of experts in the field of lighting design, architects, artists, directors of foreign light art festivals judged the works.

According to the director of the Museum-Reserve Vasily Pankratov, for the sake of the festival, more visitors came to Gatchina at night than during the day: if the daily audience of the institution is about three thousand people, then there are about 10 thousand guests at the «Night of Light». At the same time, thanks to the extensive program and the repeated (except for the fireworks) show, the Festival was nor overcrowded.
